Seasonal Programs

Cannon Mountain’s Junior Development Program is designed for skiers and snowboarders who visit on a regular schedule. The program offers a progression, for skiers and riders age 3 – 15 years old, looking to develop their skills on all types of terrain and to maximize the recreational experience. Our dedicated instructors work diligently to create a fun and safe learning atmosphere that cultivates age appropriate social and athletic growth while providing individualized attention within a structured group format to foster a lifelong love of snowsports. Junior Development Program is based out of the Brookside Learning Center at the Peabody Base Area, exit 34C from I-93.


Starting December 15th, 2018 this program will run from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm* every Saturday and Sunday for approximately 43 sessions during the season including both holiday vacation weeks, Christmas/New Year’s week (12/24/2018 & 12/26/18 – 12/28/18) and Presidents’ week (2/16/19-2/24/19 (MA/ME); 2/23/19 – 3/3/19 (NH)), plus Martin Luther King Jr. weekend (1/19/19 – 1/21/19). Classes will not meet 12/25/18 or 12/31/18-1/1/19. The program wraps up for the season the weekend of March 16th & 17th with a family fun race and BBQ for all participating families.

All classes will be separate by ability and into age appropriate groups.
Ala carte class sizes will be limited, run 1:30pm – 3:30pm, and taught

Open registration period for the 2018/2019 Junior Development program runs from 11/23/18 through 12/15/18. Late registrations will be accepted through Sunday, January 13th on a space available basis. Rates cannot be prorated for late registrants.201819Jrdevalacarteregistration

POLAR BEARS (ages 3-4) *Meets 9:30 am – 11:30 am
The primary goal of this 2-hour class is to provide a fun and safe introduction to skiing. By the end of the season, these young skiers should be able to confidently ski the whole lower mountain. All participants must be able to use the bathroom facilities independently; diapers or pull-ups are not permitted. Skiers must be three years of age prior to Dec. 15, 2018. Copy of the child’s birth certificate must accompany registration.

ROCKIN’ ROBINS (ages 4-6)
Skiers in this group have a season or two of experience and are still developing the skills to ski on all green terrain. The goal of the class is to expand the comfort zone of the skiers, while at the same time making them feel confident about skiing on blue terrain.

GREMLINS (Ages 4-6)
The children in these groups are confident skiers on green and some blue terrain. Classes work toward linked parallel turns and strengthening skills so skiers can maneuver safely on more challenging trails. By the end of the season, skiers will be skiing on some trails at the summit.

SIDE CUTS (Ages 9-11)

These skiers are confident on blue terrain, working toward linked parallel turns on more challenging terrain and varied snow surfaces. The younger class includes the integration of poles while all levels focus on building confidence on intermediate and advanced trails at Cannon.

BANSHEES (Ages 7-9)

BARONS (Ages 12-15)
Students in this group must be strong parallel skiers. The main focus of the class is to develop high levels of versatility, allowing the skiers to adapt to different on piste skiing conditions. Also, skiers learn to put finesse and efficiency into their skiing and to explore different ways of skiing on the same slope. These classes will explore some intermediate to advanced gladed terrain.

WINCH CATS (Ages 8-10)
​​For strong parallel skiers who want to increase their exposure to more challenging terrain. The main focus for this level is to develop short-radius parallel turns in the fall line on bumped and advanced gladed terrain.


For past participants of our Mogul Meister group who are looking for new ways to explore Cannon Mountain. These skiers already have developed strong skills both on and off piste. While this group will continue to explore Cannon’s vast gladed terrain, on Sundays they will learn uphill trekking techniques with the potential of telemark clinics offered during vacation periods. Families are responsible for providing the necessary equipment.

HOPEFULS (Ages 6-15)
Older children will focus on gate training as well as drills specifically designed for serious racing. The younger children will be introduced to gate training, recreational ski racing, and of course solid skiing skills. Students must have the experience and confidence to handle Cannon’s challenging terrain.

These boarders are all-mountain riders who can comfortably handle blue-square trails at Cannon.
